I have recently started an AI consulting company. And something interesting seems to have happened since , or I am just paying attention to it more now, a minimum of 30% of population I meet at any tech or community event, or randomly browse on Linkedin have also become AI consultants.
It says there might be a market for it, It also says it might become a chaotic vegetable market.
So here is how I think anyone in this state should differentiate:
- Being specific, AI consulting has a super wide scope, pull it down to a niche (domain, market segment) you could serve, yes that would mean you might miss potential business, but would also mean you will get business because you are not to be chosen from a big crowd.
- While you will use AI a lot in your solutions, dont over use the term itself, because everyone else is doing it. Highlight the problem you are solving not the technology you are using.
- Give credentials of past positions or work as proof of value. I end up repeating that I have worked for Meta, Uber and Grab a lot of times, because these are renowned trusted names people can attach my value with.
- Show up more than you currently do, just being visible, commenting or posting on Linkedin (avoid slop though) and seen in events adds a level of trust. Think of a banner you saw while commuting, you are likely to buy an item from the brand of that banner as opposed a brand you have never seen before.
